Culinary School

Learn essential techniques in knife skills, food safety, kitchen operations, and classic cooking methods. Guided by experienced chefs, you’ll gain hands-on experience preparing dishes and develop the foundational skills needed to start a career in the culinary arts or to elevate your personal cooking abilities. Ideal for anyone eager to explore the world of cooking in a supportive, fast-paced environment.
 
The school will run every Wednesday from 4pm until 8.30 pm in central Hobart. Perfect for those already studying or working and wanting to get into cookery in Tasmania or those just looking to up your kitchen game at home.

Distill Your Passion for Spirits

Enhance your spirits expertise with this masterclass designed for bartenders and beverage professionals in Tasmania. Discover the history, production, and unique profiles of spirits, from whiskey and rum to gin and liqueurs. Through guided tastings, learn to identify flavors and craft perfect pairings. This course is ideal for those passionate about elevating their bar knowledge and creating memorable customer experiences. 

Event Skills Program

Why join the Event Skills Program? 
This intensive program has been designed in collaboration with the Tasmanian event and festival industry, including some of the teambehind oubest events and festivals! 
You will receive training from industry that will ensure that
- you build practical skills through real-life experience 
- gain industry connections and networking opportunities 
- understand the Tasmanian event sector inside and out 
- create a direct pathway into employment in the events and tourism sector

Essential Information: 
Where: Hobart and surrounding areas within Southern Tasmania.  
When: Classes and placements will run from March to August 2026 – a combination of up to 10 days of theory classes and up to five days of practical placements at Tasmanian events.  
Cost: $400 per participant, includes learning resources, safety gear, all classes and placements.
EoI Closing Date:  EoI's will be accepted until CoB Friday, 27 February 2026

Food Safety Supervisor (ONLINE) - $150

THTA has partnered with the Queensland Hotels Association (RTO 30826) to provide a nationally recognised online training program for Food Safety Supervisors (SITXFSA005 and SITXFSA006).
In Tasmania, all licensed food businesses must have an accessible Food Safety Supervisor (FSS). The Food Safety Supervisor qualification must have been attained within the last five years, as there was previously no expiry date on the certificates. The best practice is a business should nominate a Primary and a Secondary Food Safety Supervisor for each site/premises.

The training for Food Safety Supervisors encompasses the following units:
  • SITXFSA005 – Use hygienic practices for food safety &
  • SITXFSA006 – Participate in safe food handling practices

Intermediate Latte Art: Take Your Coffee Game to the Next Level

Already mastered the basics of brewing and steaming? This course is for baristas with at least 3 months of hands-on experience and a solid foundation in coffee-making. It’s all about stepping up your latte art skills to create stunning designs that wow your customers. 

You’ll refine your milk texturing techniques, dive into free pouring, and master everything from basic designs to more advanced latte art. Plus, we’ll teach you how to troubleshoot common issues so you can pour with precision every time. 

Note: This course is designed for baristas aiming to up their game in the industry—it’s not for home coffee lovers looking for a casual hobby session. Time to become the latte artist you were born to be! 


Please note; this course is industry tailored for those wanting to further their skills as a Barista, it is not suited for home baristas.

  • Our Launceston courses are only available to participants 16 years or older (due to our partners insurance requirements).
  • Hobart and Devonport courses are available to those under 16 years old however participants must be accompanied by a full fee-paying parent/guardian.

THTA has partnered with the Queensland Hotels Association (RTO 30826) to provide a nationally recognised online accredited training program for SITHFAB021 Provide Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA). The training program is suitable for those who are involved in the sale and supply/service of alcohol according to relevant Tasmanian regulations. The training focuses on the performance outcomes, skills, and knowledge necessary for the responsible sale, service, or supply of alcohol.

Participants have 12 months to complete and can enrol at any time!

Visitor Experience Guide

Ready to become a day tour guide in Hobart or are you an existing guide that would love to undertake a refresher? Our one-day course will teach you how to warmly welcome visitors to Hobart and Tasmania offering them a friendly and smooth start to their visit. You’ll enhance your customer service skills to be the perfect ambassador for Tasmania, while learning about Hobart’s rich history, culture, and attractions. Learn how to keep guests engaged and comfortable as you build essential communication and time management skills and earn Tassie Tourism Ambassador recognition to ensure a memorable experience for everyone. Join us and make every visitor’s time in Hobart unforgettable! 

*Industry requirements suggest that you also have a current first aid certificate to obtain work.  

Wine Knowledge: Sip, Swirl, and Serve with Confidence

Expand your understanding of wine with this engaging course designed for hospitality professionals in Tasmania. Explore the fundamentals of winemaking, key grape varieties, and regional differences that make each bottle unique. You’ll gain confidence in tasting, describing, and recommending wines, enhancing your customer interactions and service skills. Perfect for front-of-house staff, wine enthusiasts, or anyone looking to elevate their wine knowledge in the vibrant Tasmanian hospitality scene. 


This program will run every Tuesday from 5.30 pm until 8.30 pm in central Hobart. 

Women in Sport Leadership Program

Clubs Tasmania, part of Hospitality Tasmania, in partnership with the Tasmanian Hospitality and Tourism Academy (THTA), has designed the Women in Sport Leadership Program to support and develop the next generation of female leaders across Tasmania’s sport sector.
The program supports women involved in sport including athletes, coaches, officials, administrators and volunteers to build confidence, leadership capability and visibility, both on and off the field.

The course is free for up to 15 participants, supported through Tasmanian Government funding provided to Clubs Tasmania, enabling greater access to leadership development opportunities for women in sport. Allocation of places will be on a first come, first served basis. 
 

Is this course right for me?

This course may be right for you if you:

  • Are involved in sport in any capacity including athlete, coach, official, administrator, volunteer or emerging leader
  • Are interested in building leadership confidence and capability
  • Can commit to completing the core modules and at least two elective modules
  • Are willing to actively participate and apply learning between sessions
  • ​​Are ready to invest time and energy in your leadership development


Given the limited number of places and the significant investment in delivering this program, participants are asked to make a strong commitment once enrolled.
The course involves up to six full days of face-to-face training delivered between March and November 2026, as well as additional learning, reflection and practical application activities outside of workshop days.

This commitment supports a consistent cohort experience and meaningful leadership development over time.
