Women in Sport Leadership Program
Clubs Tasmania, part of Hospitality Tasmania, in partnership with the Tasmanian Hospitality and Tourism Academy (THTA), has designed the Women in Sport Leadership Program to support and develop the next generation of female leaders across Tasmania’s sport sector.
The program supports women involved in sport including athletes, coaches, officials, administrators and volunteers to build confidence, leadership capability and visibility, both on and off the field.
The course is free for up to 15 participants, supported through Tasmanian Government funding provided to Clubs Tasmania, enabling greater access to leadership development opportunities for women in sport. Allocation of places will be on a first come, first served basis.
Is this course right for me?
This course may be right for you if you:
- Are involved in sport in any capacity including athlete, coach, official, administrator, volunteer or emerging leader
- Are interested in building leadership confidence and capability
- Can commit to completing the core modules and at least two elective modules
- Are willing to actively participate and apply learning between sessions
- Are ready to invest time and energy in your leadership development
Given the limited number of places and the significant investment in delivering this program, participants are asked to make a strong commitment once enrolled.
The course involves up to six full days of face-to-face training delivered between March and November 2026, as well as additional learning, reflection and practical application activities outside of workshop days.
This commitment supports a consistent cohort experience and meaningful leadership development over time.

Learning Methods
Program outcomes:
By completing the Women in Sport Leadership Course, participants will:
- Build confidence in their leadership identity within sport
- Better understand their leadership style, strengths and development areas
- Strengthen communication and people leadership skills
- Lead more effectively in team and club environments
- Be equipped to articulate and showcase their leadership journey
How the program works:
The program consists of six stand-alone modules. Participants undertaking the Sports Leadership Program must complete Module 1 and Module 6*. Participants can then choose any other modules (2-5) to be undertaken throughout the year, delivered as part of THTA’s My Leadership Journey series.
A minimum of two elective modules must be completed, meaning participants complete between four and six modules in total. All modules delivered in Hobart.
*Participants must complete Module 1 and Module 6 to receive a completion certificate for the course.
The Leadership Journey:
Module 1: My Leadership Ground
Lead Where You Are
(CORE MODULE)
Delivered on 26 March from 9.30 am to 4.30 pm at the THTA Campus, 19 Castray Esplanade, Battery Point.
- This foundational module introduces everyday leadership in sport, encouraging participants to recognise their influence regardless of role or title.
- Through guided reflection and practical activities, participants develop a clearer understanding of their leadership style, strengths and areas for development.
- The module includes guest speakers from the sport sector sharing real-world leadership journeys.
- Insights gained in Module 1 will support participants to make informed choices about future leadership topics and elective modules.
Enrolment in Module 1 confirms enrolment in the full Women in Sport Leadership Program, with participants selecting their additional elective modules from the THTA Leadership series to be completed after 26 March.
Module 2: My Leadership Style

• Recognise how your values, emotions and behavior shape how you lead
• Adapt your leadership approach to different people and situations
• Use self-awareness to lead more effectively
• Identify your personal leadership style
Module 3: My Leadership Voice
Say It So It Lands
(ELECTIVE MODULE)
By the end of this session, you will be able to:
• Communicate clearly and confidently as a leader
• Use active listening and questioning to build understanding
• Give feedback that supports performance and relationships
• Adjust your communication style to different situations
• Handle everyday workplace conversations more effectively
Module 4: My Team
Get the Best From Your Team
(ELECTIVE MODULE)
By the end of this session, you will be able to:
• Understand what makes a team work well
• Build trust and engagement within your team
• Use coaching and delegation to support others
• Recognise the strengths people bring to a team
• Contribute to a positive and productive team culture
Module 5: My Leadership Strength
Lead When It Counts
(ELECTIVE MODULE)
By the end of this session, you will be able to:
• Stay effective when things become challenging or stressful
• Use practical tools to solve problems and make decisions
• Handle conflict and difficult situations more confidently
• Set priorities and manage competing demands
• Lead with resilience and clarity under pressure
Module 6: My Leadership Journey
Showcase Your Leadership
(CORE MODULE)
The final module is a graduation session, celebrating
participant growth and supporting participants to
articulate and showcase their leadership journey within the sport system.
